Christmas Judo Competition

Tsukuru JudoOn 15th December 2013  I went to Tunbridge Wells for a pre-christmas judo competition. When we got there I felt excited and also nervous to the point when I started shaking. The announcer let everyone know that the 1:10 group should make their way to the mat, I was in the 10 past 1 group. I  walked onto the mat with my friend Abby , first we did warm ups before we actually started competing.

Then our names were called out and we went to the benches we were told to sit on. I was not in the first match which is always good because you can learn by watching others and their techniques to take your opponent down and win and what not to do so your opponent won’t take you down. I was in the second match, I attempted lots of techniques but the one that got my opponent down is called a leg sweep and the happy news was I won the first match.

The second match was harder and tougher, me and my opponent tried lots of techniques but it was likely to be a draw but then the referee said the next person to take the other down in the next 30 seconds will be the winner ,  luckily in the remaining 30 seconds I took my opponent down again using the leg sweep once more. The 3rd match I used a throw to get the opponent down and that throw is called a body drop  the last match was extremely tough but I won that one too.

When the medal ceremony started I felt nervous but once the bronze and silver recipients were announced I knew I was going to receive gold and I certainly did. As did my friend Abby.

Tsukuru Judo

Tsukuru_logoI ‘m happy everything went well! I love judo. Why don’t you have a go, ask your parents to find you a dojo and if you live in Kent I suggest Orpington Tsukuru judo club, maybe you might get a gold, but don’t force yourself. Enjoy though if you do have a go.
